What is Maintenance Mode?
Maintenance mode is a feature that allows you to safely update or modify your online store without impacting the live customer experience.
When maintenance mode is enabled, your storefront temporarily displays a maintenance message instead of your usual site content — letting visitors know the store is under construction or being updated.
This mode is ideal for testing new features, applying design updates, or making major configuration changes without risking live customer data or transactions.
Common Use Cases
You can enable maintenance mode in various scenarios, such as:
| Initial setup | When your store is still under development. |
|---|---|
| Testing new features or design changes | Before making them live to customers. |
| Temporary downtime | For upgrades, system updates, or maintenance. |
| Store closure or transition | When pausing or rebranding your business. |
How to enable Maintenance Mode and Restrict Access
Follow these simple steps to activate maintenance mode and restrict access:
- Log in to your eCommerce Admin Panel.
- Navigate to Settings → General → Maintenance Mode.
- Check the box labeled “Close your Store for Maintenance.”
- Click Save to enable the changes.
✅ Done! Your online store is now in maintenance mode.
Best Practice Recommendations
- Always test changes in maintenance mode before going live.
- Avoid extended maintenance periods — aim to restore access quickly.
- Update your store’s social media or announcement bar to notify customers of temporary downtime.
