The Yoco Payment Gateway can be activated directly from the Yoco Business Portal, either during sign-up or from the payment settings dashboard. Once connected, merchants can begin accepting payments immediately.

How to set up Yoco Payment Gateway

Step 1: Go to Payment Settings

  1. Log in to your eCommerce Admin Panel.
  2. Go to Settings → Payments.
  3. Click on Add Payment Method.

Step 2: Select Yoco

A pop-up window will appear.

  • From the Payment Gateway dropdown, select Yoco.
  • If Yoco isn’t listed, your store currency may not be supported (see section below).

Step 3: Enable the Payment Method

  • Turn on the Enable Payment Method toggle.

Step 4: Enter your Yoco Credentials

You will need your Secret Key from your Yoco Business Portal.

To get your Secret Key:

  1. Log in to your Yoco Business Portal.
  2. Navigate to your Developer / API section.
  3. Copy the Secret Key.
  4. Paste the key into the Yoco setup window and click Submit.

Sandbox (Testing) Mode

You can test Yoco in Sandbox mode before processing real payments.

  1. In the Yoco setup page, click More Options.
  2. Turn on Sandbox Mode.
  3. Enter the same key in the Test Secret Key field.
  4. Save your changes.

This allows safe testing of payment flows during checkout.

Yoco Supported Currencies

Currency Name Code
South African Rand ZAR

All products and services must be listed in ZAR in your store.

Customers using international cards can still make payments — their bank automatically converts their home currency into ZAR.

Yoco isn’t available with your Store Currency

If Yoco does not appear as an option in the payment list, your store currency is not supported. To enable Yoco, you must set your store currency to ZAR.

How to change your Store Currency

  1. Navigate to Settings → General in your eCommerce admin panel.
  2. Click on Standards and Formats.
  3. Choose ZAR from the currency dropdown.
  4. Save the changes.
